The best way to reinstall 98
is to a clean disk. But the upgrade looks for a previous version of Windows
before it will install. Here're a few workarounds for that problem.
- 1. Assuming
your startup disk accesses your CDROM, just format C: then reboot with the
startup floppy, run setup as usual, when the upgrade asks for a previous
version, put in your Win95 cd, after it roots through that for a while,
it'll tell you to put the 98 cd back in.
- 2. If
you have the Win95 cabs on your hard drive, point the confirmation to that
folder.
- 3. You
can also point the check to your 3.x or 95 install floppies. This is the
slowest method, since you have to put in a slew of the floppies before
98's satisfied.
